Mi casa es tu casa - Kathleen

I can't believe it has only been a week since I've been in Chile! It feels like so much longer especially since I am completely immersed in their culture by living in the Ortiz's house, eating their food, listening to their language, and seeing how they live their everyday lives. I've been abroad before, but not in a way where I rely on someone as much as I rely on my host family. But oh my goodness, am I glad to have the family that I do! Even with the last minute change, they were so quick to tell me, "Mi casa es tu casa." We bonded super quick and I was even able to celebrate Mother's Day with my host mom!

¡No puedo creer que solo haya pasado una semana desde que estuve en Chile! Se siente como mucho más tiempo, especialmente porque estoy completamente inmerso en su cultura viviendo en la casa de los Ortiz, comiendo su comida, escuchando su idioma y viendo cómo viven su vida cotidiana. He estado en el extranjero antes, pero no de una manera en la que confío tanto en alguien como en mi familia de acogida. Pero, ¡Dios mío, estoy contento de tener a la familia que tengo! Incluso con el cambio de último minuto, fueron tan rápidos para decirme: "Mi casa es tu casa". Nos unimos súper rápido e incluso pude celebrar el Día de la Madre con mi madre anfitriona.

Almuerzo

They took me to one of the beaches here and one of the lagoons. I called it a lake, but they had fun saying "lagoon"! Don't get me started on the food! I have been eating so much, I know that my body will regret it once I get back to the states. I tried porotos, which is like our red beans and rice, but it is way more rico (delicious)! I also tried completo, which is a hot dog topped with tomatoes, avocado, and tons of mayonnaise! I normally don't eat hot dogs back at home, but hey, whenever you are out the country, why not!?

Me llevaron a una de las playas de aquí y a una de las lagunas. Lo llamé lago, ¡pero se divirtieron diciendo "laguna"! ¡No me hagas comenzar a comer! He comido tanto, sé que mi cuerpo se arrepentirá una vez que regrese a los Estados Unidos. Probé porotos, que es como nuestros frijoles rojos y arroz, pero es mucho más rico (delicioso). También intenté completo, que es un perro caliente con tomates, aguacate y toneladas de mayonesa. Normalmente no como perros calientes en casa, pero bueno, cada vez que sales del país,¿por qué no?

I am working with both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes while I am here and it is so great! It has been a little overwhelming since I am teaching in six different classes but the kids here are so excited to learn. I am teaching about Mike the Tiger and they are fascinated about the fact that we have a tiger living on our campus!
¡Estoy trabajando con las clases de prejardín de infantes y kínder mientras estoy aquí y es genial! Ha sido un poco abrumador ya que estoy enseñando en seis clases diferentes, pero los niños aquí están tan emocionados de aprender. ¡Estoy enseñando sobre Mike the Tiger y les fascina el hecho de que tengamos un tigre viviendo en nuestro campus!
